This month's installment ends
West Story. I've now written four stories in the Exchange fictional
universe. POD members have now seen all of them at one stage or another
of development. The four stories total between 70,000 and 80,000 words
if you put them all together. That's a fairly respectable novel, and
the stories were written with eventual integration in mind.
As soon as West Story cools, I'll edit it a bit, integrate it into the overall story, and start sending the result out. Anyone with experience at successfully marketing a novel is welcome to chime in with advice. The stories have evolved a bit since they appeared in POD. Bat Out of Hell received a very extensive rewrite, at least partly in response to suggestions from POD members. Wish me luck in my marketing endeavor. In the next few months I'm planning to shift my emphasize away from the alternate history scenarios a bit in favor of more fiction writing based on the alternate history scenarios I've created. If you have a favorite scenario you would like to see a story set in, please let me know. That may be bad news for people primarily interested in alternate history, but I'm also planning to go back and bring some of the earlier versions of the zine up to the current standards. That will make them much more accessible. I may even post excerpts from some of the earlier zines that are currently available only in issues of POD. The next few issues of the newsletter may be a little smaller than you have grown accustom to, but I'll continue to make the web site a worthwhile place for alternate history enthusiasts to stop.
